#ABPOS The Thinner Soul, Chp. 24
Radiance- I was afraid to ask. I didn't think I would get a straightforward answer, but our fears had reached their limits. There was no greater amount of fear to be felt. As soon as I knew he was with me, I launched my interrogation.
"Where are you Eaton? I need the truth. And if you're in trouble, don't you think I should know?" I lamented.
"It's Unger International." I heard pretty swiftly, but then there was nothing. I made my way to the mirror, and he then continued.
"I once worked for the owner. Things got sour, and I'm being held in a Russian prison."
"Russia? Eaton are you kidding me? How am I suppose to help with any of this?" I walked away from my reflection and began pacing. It had to be true. It was the only sensible reason I could accept for why he hadn't returned or even surprised me with something to solidify our engagement. Although it was acceptable, I had no understanding of how to approach the matter. I walked back to my vanity with tears welding in my eyes, and a feeling of hopelessness quickly took hold of any faithful thought I had for our future.
"I didn't break any laws. It's all a manipulation of power." He tried to reassured me.
"What are we gonna do?" I took knee afront my ottoman, and laid my head atop. After a few moments, I found myself prostrated with the state of affairs. I couldn't see my way forward, so I kept my eyes closed and it helped to contain the moment.
"Reece maybe can help. She's connected." Were his final words before he slipped away again, and I knew I was alone. I thought about the word connected. Maybe he'd known something I didn't know. After all, she was just a music executive. How connected did he expect her to be? I didn't know if I had it in me to deliver to her news that appeared bigger than her reach. I stayed balled up on the floor beside my bed, and then remained in the dark after the light faded away. I could hear my phone go off every few minutes with notifications, but I knew that there was nothing that would supersede my current dilemma.
