Eaton- Since I had met Radiance, I'd only given a piece of my heart away. It was all encompassing, and then it wasn't.  I'd tripped them both.  They had each recovered, but it didn't matter to Unger as long as they had been properly derailed.  She'd eventually taken that piece of my heart back, and when I heard her let him down, I knew it wasn't just the principle of the matter why she wanted the last piece.  Seeing her in front of me fully immersed in the tribulations of my hidden world, also let me know I wasn't alone in my whole-hearted love.

It was hard to talk freely, but we'd managed to convey everything we felt.  I was ran over and weak, but her presence brought electricity.  We'd spoken many nights since then, and I knew Reece was not done seeing red.  It wasn't the kind of situation I could take lightly either, but I trusted that Sam might show her how to keep balance up this high.  In fact, it was all I could think of.  I knew the slightest bit of commotion could move the needle in a scary and unwanted direction.  I wasn't sure how they'd found me, but it brought me a lot of concern and a lot more commentary from the guards.  I never knew what they were saying, but I could tell there had been mix reactions.

I wanted to say move fast, but it was delicate, so I mostly found myself cautioning Radiance to be careful.  I'd given what I could, but I knew that Unger International was a great cover.  A private security firm was just the right kind of business to secure the kind of information that was very useful to Unger.  I waited to hear each day what headway they'd made, but it felt like I was stuck in a blizzard. Nothing was moving.

Suddenly, I could hear a melee, a sort of buzzing in the dugout--before long I found myself staring up into the eyes of Unger.  He spoke of things Radiance and I hadn't discussed.  Things about her making a definite rebound from the trip we'd conducted, and about the Simpleton's threats.  I remained still; sitting with my back pressed against the brickwork.  It was the reason I had ended up there.  Technically, they both were, but some mysterious force had protected them both.  Now, I just had to hope the same force would protect Reece.

Cassandra Simpleton- I wasn't done trying to get my hands on the Simpleton legacy.  Being booted didn't mean the end, it just meant I needed to be creative and patient.  I hadn't secured any of Walter's percentage, nor had I received my father's forgiveness. We drifted apart, and became formally known for our rift.  He'd done a great job of handing off to Rick, and he wasn't the disappointment my father had ferociously anticipated.  I stayed close enough to the facts and the market however, if it ever became necessary for me to make a return.  Anyone who knew me could bet on that, but there was more.

In the years since my father had died, I'd gotten close to Unger.  My plan was simple until it wasn't anymore.  The minute I heard about his ill dealings in Russia, I had quickly regrouped.   My thoughts were definitely a part of the Simpleton handbook.  It was a safe bet.. provide enough help, and I could possibly carve out an opportunity with Ample Publishing.  It wasn't as big, and it was only still growing its claws, but I knew if Sam took down Unger, he would never live it down.

I continued to covered up my relationship, and sold whatever information I had as being gained through connections.  I'd led the company, and naturally I understood all the moving parts of Simpleton and Fisher.  I knew it would be a solid beginning in helping everyone to overlook my failures if I found the company its new international spine.  Therefore I joined Sam in working to convince Rick to sever all ties with Unger.

Until it all came together, I continued to carry on our affair, and I felt more of value with each day.  Then he went off the grid.

No calls, no messages.. and no return calls for 3 days.

A Better Pair of Shoes, a novel                                                                     Chapter 1 Introduction ( narrated by Kayla) Just as we are living souls; life itself has a soul.  And there’s a heartbeat to life.  I call it the rising and the falling.  Just as we must rise, I’ve learned that we must fall.  I find that I’m grateful for the things I learn when I fall, yet I often dislike the cuts they bring and the scars they leave behind.  Today I fell, but perhaps for months I’ve been falling, and I have all the bumps and bruises to prove it.  Although they’re not visible to the eye, they are surely recorded on my soul.  It’s funny how often my spirit tried to warn me, with a bit of melancholy here and uncertainty there, but at the time, I hadn’t considered t...

We built what became of Ample Records; the household name and the phenomenon.  I'm overseer of management, and Kaylin walked away with all her publishing rights and most of the fame.  With "Death to Forty" the legacy continues.  I'm slouched in my seat when they come through the door one after each other like Dunbars do.  I know it's just the way the clock struck them.   I'm stunned by her resolve, but we're all stunned by each other's resolve.  They're book publishing royalty and we're new money in music, but it's one room, and we know how we all got here.  I'm sitting upright by the time everyone sits.  Radiance is not far behind with her heart shaped lenses.  "Nice Shot."  Sam congra...

A Better Pair of Shoes "The Thinner Soul", a novel - Chapter 7 and 8

(Click on the Image to open a clearer view) #ABPOS "The Thinner Soul", Chp. 7 Monica Shepherd-   What is it with guys and art galleries this millennia: a general period of righteousness and happiness?  It's the new wave of hoppers.  I used to stand at the corner of the gallery and watch loads of women come through looking for their life's subject in the canvases on the walls.  Now it's unknown males just staring with whatever the search hidden deep within.  I haven't been able to pin point the caravan in their hearts or the subjects lingering in their messenger bags.  I'm captured by his gaze.  Standing from behind it's still a deep gaze.  I'm studying his selections; where his feet are led to stop, and he appears to have a solid question.  I mean.. the three artists, the stories, and their gifts.  I study them all as they come and go.  I know the types they draw, and I know he's coming my way.  It was the recognition he a...
