Kaylin- I had not expected to hear about any tour dates for maybe another eight months when the chatter about Radiance in Russia hit my comment section. It wasn't too late, and I decided to be there. It was great timing, and a pop up concert was just the right kind of excitement.  Being the end of summer was also a plus.  I didn't get the invite, but I knew my readers didn't care about the ins and outs of the business or our relationship.  I had one single job, and I knew what it was.

I'd shared the news about the ownership of the Ample Records name with Kayla, and she was even more surprised than I was.  Neither one of us were able to imagine what exact set of circumstances had made that possible.  Sam was Ample, and everybody knew that.  Even our best efforts to uncover how she outsmarted everyone led us nowhere. It was even new news to Ketly.  It certainly couldn't have been a reward for all the albums we sold.  After all, I'd only been awarded a no compete contract.

No matter how we looked over the deal we had made, we'd become aware that moving around the law in the matter, had left us somewhat impaired.  It had given me an exhilarating career with lots of fanfare, but all I had was what I'd worked for, and we never even touched any of the pockets that had been liable.  All of a sudden, I could see just how green--green could be.  Still, Kayla had found a lane that often never got explored.  She'd made wine from water, and I was no longer stuck in the land of mere dreamers.  It was like a dance with an alchemist, and she had led brilliantly with the things she was "for" and not "against".  For the first time I saw our differences clear.  It was the difference between innocent and pure.

I gently came to the conclusion that Radiance had taken a turn onto a winning streak.  I read the words I'd written for the third time, and uploaded them to K-Ezra.  I'd seen the new album cover, and I'd seen her show, and it was no two-way street. "Radiance Dunbar brings new Horizons" .. was the headline.

Radiance- I'd decided on death to all the things I eagerly wanted forty to represent or bring finality to.  I knew Eaton was in a dire position, but I'd come to a crossroads with a bridge burning behind me.  It amplified everything, and no redress had the most amplification.  I'd chosen to marry Eaton, and not John.  It wasn't tomorrow's promise that had gotten me through the murky woods of my decision, but yesterday's promise when it was a young tomorrow. When I'd met Eaton he drew my eyes forward in a way that I never wanted to forget. We were definite sand and stars, and in my heart, it was still enough.  I wanted John to understand, but I thought my sentiments were too estranged.  There was only one way, and I knew he needed to see the dress.

We hadn't spoken everyday in a while.  I knew from his voice that he knew where we were.  When he arrived at my door, I could also tell by his eyes.  We hugged for a long while, then he kissed me near my ear.  I held his hand and led him to my closet.
"You'll never understand unless you see it."  I reassured, and when he had seen it he quickly backed out of the space before returning to the common area.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you what?"
"That you'd gone too far down that road."
"It wasn't known to me until there were two options."  I found my words like I'd found my step.
"It's undeniable.  The dress.  It's more than a placeholder.  It's a strong thought."
"We've been in touch."
"So that's it?  I just never see you again?"
"We're getting married."  I blurted out.  I knew it wasn't suppose to go right there, and I somewhat regretted it, but I also felt an excitement I could no longer deny.  After he finally lifted his head, he stood and turned for the door.  I closed my eyes tightly, and looked away.  It wasn't sorrow.  It was dignity.  He deserved his dignity.

A Better Pair of Shoes, a novel                                                                     Chapter 1 Introduction ( narrated by Kayla) Just as we are living souls; life itself has a soul.  And there’s a heartbeat to life.  I call it the rising and the falling.  Just as we must rise, I’ve learned that we must fall.  I find that I’m grateful for the things I learn when I fall, yet I often dislike the cuts they bring and the scars they leave behind.  Today I fell, but perhaps for months I’ve been falling, and I have all the bumps and bruises to prove it.  Although they’re not visible to the eye, they are surely recorded on my soul.  It’s funny how often my spirit tried to warn me, with a bit of melancholy here and uncertainty there, but at the time, I hadn’t considered t...

We built what became of Ample Records; the household name and the phenomenon.  I'm overseer of management, and Kaylin walked away with all her publishing rights and most of the fame.  With "Death to Forty" the legacy continues.  I'm slouched in my seat when they come through the door one after each other like Dunbars do.  I know it's just the way the clock struck them.   I'm stunned by her resolve, but we're all stunned by each other's resolve.  They're book publishing royalty and we're new money in music, but it's one room, and we know how we all got here.  I'm sitting upright by the time everyone sits.  Radiance is not far behind with her heart shaped lenses.  "Nice Shot."  Sam congra...

A Better Pair of Shoes "The Thinner Soul", a novel - Chapter 7 and 8

(Click on the Image to open a clearer view) #ABPOS "The Thinner Soul", Chp. 7 Monica Shepherd-   What is it with guys and art galleries this millennia: a general period of righteousness and happiness?  It's the new wave of hoppers.  I used to stand at the corner of the gallery and watch loads of women come through looking for their life's subject in the canvases on the walls.  Now it's unknown males just staring with whatever the search hidden deep within.  I haven't been able to pin point the caravan in their hearts or the subjects lingering in their messenger bags.  I'm captured by his gaze.  Standing from behind it's still a deep gaze.  I'm studying his selections; where his feet are led to stop, and he appears to have a solid question.  I mean.. the three artists, the stories, and their gifts.  I study them all as they come and go.  I know the types they draw, and I know he's coming my way.  It was the recognition he a...
